COURSE CURRICULUM

Mathematics is a 240 credit point program structured into a 160 credit point core zone and an 80 credit point flexible zone designed to build strong theoretical and applied mathematical skills. The core begins with foundational units such as FOSE1000 Becoming a Scientist, FOSE2000 The Science Practitioner and FOSE3000 Capstone, supported by introductory statistics and computing units like STAT1170 or STAT1371 and FOSE1025 or FOSE1030 for scientific computing or Python programming. Students complete further science electives across related disciplines to broaden analytical capability. The Mathematics major develops progressively through essential units in calculus, linear algebra, modelling and advanced mathematical theory. Early study includes MATH1010 or MATH1015, followed by MATH1020 or MATH1025, building toward higher level subjects such as MATH2010 Calculus and Linear Algebra III, MATH2020 Vector Calculus and Complex Analysis, MATH2030 Modelling with Differential Equations, MATH3010 Algebra and Analysis, MATH3020 Partial Differential Equations and MATH3030 Discover and Innovate in Mathematics. This structure ensures students gain rigorous problem solving skills, abstract reasoning ability and practical modelling expertise applicable to science, engineering, data analytics and finance careers. Graduates are prepared for careers in research, data science, finance, education and technology, with strong analytical, computational and problem solving skills for complex real world challenges applications today.
