COURSE CURRICULUM

The Human Biology major is part of a 240-credit-point degree structured into a 160-credit-point core zone, an 80-credit-point flexible zone, and an 80-credit-point major. The core zone develops essential scientific foundations through units such as FOSE1000 Becoming a Scientist and FOSE2000 The Science Practitioner, along with the capstone FOSE3000 Making Science Work for You and Society, which integrates learning across the degree. Students also build quantitative and computational skills through STAT1170 Introductory Statistics or STAT1371 Statistical Data Analysis, and either FOSE1025 Scientific Computing or FOSE1030 Introduction to Python Programming, depending on their chosen pathway. Additional elective science units provide interdisciplinary exposure across biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and environmental sciences. The Human Biology major (80 credit points) is delivered through a structured sequence of biology-focused units that build from foundational to advanced knowledge. It begins with BIOL1110 Genes to Organisms and BIOL1210 Human Biology, followed by BIOL2110 Genetics, BIOL2220 Systems Physiology, and BIOL2230 Neurophysiology. Students then progress to advanced study in SSCI3040 Bodies, Brains, Technology: Humans Evolving, BIOL3120 Human Genetics and Evolutionary Medicine, and BIOL3210 Advanced Human Physiology. Overall, the program integrates molecular biology, physiology, neuroscience, and evolutionary perspectives, equipping students with strong analytical, research, and communication skills for careers and further study in health sciences and biomedical fields.
