COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Psychological Science with a major in Applied Psychological Science is a 240 credit point program designed to provide a strong foundation in understanding human behaviour, cognition and mental processes through scientific study. The core zone consists of 110 credit points of essential units that introduce students to psychology, health systems, evidence-based practice and scientific thinking. Key areas include social and personality psychology, developmental psychology, perception and cognition, biopsychology and learning, psychopathology, and advanced research methods through Design and Statistics II and III. Students also study topics such as misconceptions in the modern world, helping them develop critical thinking skills and the ability to evaluate psychological claims. The program includes elective units that allow exploration of psychology in context, health and wellbeing, lifestyle factors and health in society, as well as advanced-level study in specialised topics. A 10 credit point capstone unit, PACE: Psychological Science: Putting Theory into Practice, integrates academic learning with practical application in real-world settings. The Applied Psychological Science major accounts for 80 credit points and includes core units such as psychological health and wellbeing, current topics in psychological science, principles of behaviour change, and advanced topics in psychological science. This structure ensures students develop both theoretical knowledge and applied skills. Graduates are well prepared for careers in psychology-related fields, healthcare, human services, research and community services, with strong abilities in research, analysis, communication and evidence-based problem solving.
