COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Medical Sciences with a major in Neuroscience provides a structured program for understanding the nervous system from its basic biological foundations to complex brain function and clinical applications. The core zone establishes essential knowledge in biology, chemistry, statistics, human biology, and human structure and function, along with foundational studies in medical sciences and contemporary health issues. These units build a strong base in scientific reasoning and biomedical understanding. A capstone unit in the final year integrates learning across the degree, applying medical science concepts to real-world challenges. The Neuroscience major then builds specialised expertise in neurophysiology, the nervous system, pharmacology, and clinical neuroscience, focusing on how neural systems operate in both health and disease. Students study how the brain and nervous system are structured and how they regulate behaviour, cognition, and bodily functions. Elective units allow exploration of complementary areas such as neuroanatomy, psychology, cognitive neuroscience, neuroimaging, and computational neuroscience, providing both biological and behavioural perspectives. This combination develops strong analytical, laboratory, and problem-solving skills, along with an understanding of neurological disorders and brain function. Graduates are prepared for careers in neuroscience research, biomedical science, healthcare, and related industries, as well as for further study in medicine, neurology, psychology, or cognitive science, with strong interdisciplinary training across biology and brain sciences.
