COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Media and Communications (Screen Practice and Production major) is a 240-credit-point program structured into a 160-credit-point core zone and an 80-credit-point major, designed to develop strong creative, technical, and critical skills in film, television, and screen media production. The core zone includes essential units such as Media Practice and Production (MMCC1015), Introduction to Media and Mass Communications (MMCC1040), Creative Freedoms: Authorship, Technology, Law (MMCC2014), Media Theory in Practice, Media Representations, Cybercultures, and Media Ethics (MMCC3016), which together build a strong foundation in media theory, ethics, and production practices. Students also complete a capstone unit, PACE: Media Internship (MMCC3150), providing real-world industry experience in a professional media environment. The Screen Practice and Production major (80 credit points) focuses on hands-on filmmaking and screen storytelling through units such as Introduction to the Cinema, Screenwriting, Screen Production: Filmmaking Across Genres, Fiction Filmmaking, Documentary Media, Documentary Filmmaking, Open Form Filmmaking, and Music, Sound, and Moving Image. These units allow students to develop practical expertise in directing, producing, writing, cinematography, editing, and sound design while also building an understanding of screen theory and genre. Overall, the program prepares graduates for careers in film production, television, documentary filmmaking, digital media production, screenwriting, and other creative screen industries by combining practical production experience with critical media analysis and storytelling skills.
