COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Media and Communications (Journalism and Non-Fiction Writing major) is a 240-credit-point program structured into a 160-credit-point core zone and an 80-credit-point major, designed to build strong skills in journalism, media production, and critical media analysis. The core zone includes essential units such as Media Practice and Production (MMCC1015), Introduction to Media and Mass Communications (MMCC1040), Media Theory in Practice, Media Representations, Cybercultures, Creative Freedoms: Authorship, Technology, Law (MMCC2014), and Media Ethics (MMCC3016). These subjects provide a foundation in media theory, communication practices, and ethical understanding of the media industry. Students also complete a capstone unit, PACE: Media Internship (MMCC3150), which provides real-world industry experience in a professional setting. The Journalism and Non-Fiction Writing major (80 credit points) focuses on developing practical reporting and writing skills through units such as Multimodal Storytelling, Media Technologies, News Media, Journalism Research: From Data to Story, Writing for Love or Money, News and Technology, and Telling True Stories. Elective units such as Photo Media and Music and Arts Journalism allow further specialization. Overall, the program prepares graduates for careers in journalism, news reporting, content creation, editing, publishing, and media communication roles across digital, broadcast, print, and online platforms, combining practical storytelling skills with critical understanding of media systems and ethics.
