COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Health Sciences (Mental Health and Counselling major) is a 240-credit-point program structured into a 160-credit-point core zone and an 80-credit-point flexible zone. The core zone includes essential foundational units such as Professional Practice 1 (MHHS1001), Human Structure and Function (MHHS1002), Misconceptions in the Modern World (MHHS1008), and Professional Practice 2 (MHHS2001), along with a capstone unit, PACE: Professional Practice 3 (MHHS3001), which integrates learning in the final year. Students also complete elective units (30 credit points) including Evidence-Based Practice in Health, Health Systems, Lifestyle Factors for Health and Wellbeing, Health, Society and Culture, and Psychology in Context: Health, Development & Well-Being, providing broad interdisciplinary exposure. The Mental Health and Counselling major comprises 80 credit points focused on psychological theory, counselling practice, and behaviour change. Core major units include Lifestyle Factors for Health and Wellbeing (MHHS1005), Health, Society and Culture (MHHS1006), Counselling Skills Training (PSYU2302), Psychological Health and Wellbeing (PSYU2222), Principles of Behaviour Change (PSYU3348), and Advanced Counselling Approaches and Principles (PSYU3301). Students further develop expertise through elective psychology units such as Developmental Psychology (PSYU2235), Current Topics in Psychological Science 1 (PSYU2501), Psychopathology (PSYU3337), and Advanced Topics in Psychological Science 1 (PSYU3501). Overall, the program integrates health sciences with psychology and counselling practice, preparing graduates for roles in mental health support and providing a pathway toward advanced counselling careers with further study and professional training.
