COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Game Design and Development is a comprehensive program that develops both creative and technical expertise for the modern games industry. The core structure of the degree is designed to progressively build skills in programming, design, visual production, and interactive media, enabling students to move from foundational concepts to advanced game development practice. Early study introduces key areas such as computer programming, fundamentals of computer science, game development principles, 3D modelling and animation, and introductory video games studies. Students also gain essential knowledge in cyber security, database systems, networking, and project management, ensuring they understand the broader technical infrastructure behind modern games. As the degree progresses, students engage with advanced subjects such as game studio practice, game design, game development, computer graphics, virtual reality, serious games, and critical games studies. These units develop both technical proficiency and conceptual understanding of games as cultural and interactive systems. The program strongly emphasises practical, hands-on learning through major project-based units like Games Project A and the capstone Games Project B (PACE), where students collaborate in simulated industry environments. Elective units at different levels allow further customisation of skills. Overall, the degree prepares graduates for careers in game design, development, interactive media, and related digital creative industries.
