COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Software Engineering is a 320-credit-point program comprising a 280-credit-point core zone and a 40-credit-point flexible zone, designed to develop comprehensive knowledge and practical expertise in software engineering. The core engineering component includes essential units such as Introduction to Engineering (ENGG1000), Engineering Design (ENGG1050), Engineering Practice (ENGG2000), Engineering Systems and Design Thinking (ENGG2050), Engineering Project Practice (ENGG3000), Engineering Leadership and Entrepreneurship (ENGG3050), and the Professional Practice capstone (ENGG4001), complemented by industry experience through PACE (ENGG4099). The Software Engineering specialisation consists of 210 credit points and begins with foundational studies in computer programming, computer science, software engineering, cybersecurity, database design, and discrete mathematics. Students then progress to advanced topics including Object-Oriented Programming, Algorithms and Data Structures, Systems Programming, Programming Languages, Algorithm Theory and Design, Distributed Systems, Secure Applications Development, Formal Methods, Software Engineering Practices, and Advanced Software Engineering. The curriculum concludes with two research thesis units (COMP4092 and COMP4093), enabling students to undertake independent software engineering research and solve complex technical problems. Students also choose an elective in either Data Communications or Networking and Cloud Computing to broaden their expertise. Throughout the program, students gain practical experience using industry-standard software development methodologies, tools, and technologies to design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain reliable software systems. Overall, the degree prepares graduates for careers in software development, cybersecurity, cloud computing, systems engineering, artificial intelligence, and enterprise technology by combining strong theoretical foundations with practical engineering, research, and professional skills.
