COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Education (Secondary) provides a comprehensive and flexible core structure designed to prepare future secondary school teachers through 320 credit points of study across educational foundations, professional practice, and a chosen teaching area. The core zone includes essential units such as Indigenous Australia, Understanding Learners and Learning Environments, Inclusion in a Diverse World, Sustainability, and the Brain, Development and Learning, alongside specialist practice units in cultural and linguistic diversity, inclusive pedagogy, Indigenous education, classroom management, and technology-enhanced learning. Students complete progressive professional experience units, culminating in Work While You Learn placements and a final capstone that integrates theory and classroom practice. A core requirement also includes LANTITE, ensuring literacy and numeracy competence for teaching. Students then specialise in a first teaching area of 80 credit points, choosing from disciplines such as Ancient History, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Studies, Economics, English, Enterprise Computing, Geography, Mathematics, and others. Each teaching area combines subject-specific content with curriculum and pedagogy units for teaching Years 7–10 and Years 11–12, along with elective units that deepen disciplinary knowledge. The structure ensures graduates develop strong subject expertise, inclusive teaching strategies, and practical classroom experience across multiple school contexts. Overall, the program integrates academic learning, professional placements, and reflective practice to prepare graduates for confident, effective teaching in diverse secondary education environments.
