COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Education (Primary) is a 320-credit-point program structured entirely within a core zone, designed to build comprehensive knowledge and practical teaching skills for future primary educators. The degree includes a wide range of essential units (260 credit points) that develop foundational understanding of learners, inclusive education, curriculum design, and teaching strategies across key subject areas. Early studies focus on topics such as Indigenous Australia (ABST1000), play-based learning (ECHE1130), arts in children’s lives (ECHE1310), inclusive education (EDST1501), sustainability (EDST1505), and understanding learners and learning environments (EDST1500). Students then progress into discipline-specific pedagogy, including mathematics, science, English, history, geography, technology, health, and creative arts, alongside specialist units addressing cultural diversity, Indigenous education, and inclusive teaching practices. Professional practice units such as EDST4510 and EDST4520 provide extensive work-integrated learning experiences, including major teaching placements that build classroom readiness and confidence. The program also includes capstone units that consolidate learning through advanced professional experience in real school settings. Students complete a small number of elective units (10 credit points), allowing exploration of broader interests in areas such as sociology, philosophy, politics, media, creative writing, anthropology, gender studies, and music. Overall, the degree integrates theory, pedagogy, and extensive classroom practice to prepare graduates to become highly capable, reflective, and adaptable primary school teachers equipped to work in diverse and modern educational environments.
