COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary) core zone provides a comprehensive 320-credit-point program designed to prepare graduates for teaching children from infancy through to the primary years. The essential units cover 260 credit points and build a strong foundation in child development, pedagogy, and curriculum design. Students study areas such as play-based learning, the arts in children’s lives, learner diversity, sustainability, infant and toddler curriculum, language and literacies, special educational needs, brain development, and technology-enhanced learning. The program also includes specialist teaching units in English, mathematics, science, technology, history, geography, creative arts, and health and physical education, ensuring broad curriculum expertise. Professional practice is embedded throughout the degree, with units focused on classroom management, inclusive pedagogy, Indigenous education, and leadership in early learning environments. Students progressively engage in teaching placements, culminating in the final capstone unit, Practice of Teaching: Work While You Learn 2, which integrates theory and extensive classroom experience in real educational settings. A LANTITE requirement ensures literacy and numeracy competency for teaching. The degree also offers elective units that allow students to tailor their learning, including options in primary mathematics, inclusion, and subject specialisations. Overall, the structure combines academic study, practical teaching experience, and reflective practice to ensure graduates are fully prepared to teach effectively in early childhood and primary education settings.
