COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Criminology is a 240 credit point program made up of a 160 credit point core zone and an 80 credit point flexible zone, designed to build a comprehensive understanding of crime, justice and social systems. The core zone includes foundational units such as CRIM1001 Introduction to Criminology, CRIM1002 Policing and Crime, SOCI1030 Introduction to Justice and Punishment and SSCI1001 Introduction to Social Sciences, which establish key theoretical and analytical frameworks. Students also engage with critical perspectives through ABST1000 Indigenous Australia and ABST3040 Colonialism, Capitalism and Nationalism, developing awareness of historical and structural influences on justice. Intermediate and advanced units explore specialised areas including CRIM2001 Media, Representation and Crime, CRIM2002 Transnational Crime, PICT2001 Cybercrime, PICT2015 Terrorism and Counterterrorism in the 21st Century, LAWS2050 Crime, Policy and Governance, CRIM3001 Crime, Justice and the Environment and GEND3010 Gender, Crime and Violence. Professional practice is supported through SSCI2002 Practising Social Sciences and the PACE unit PICT3020 International Studies in Practice. The program culminates in the capstone CRIM3002 Criminological Futures, which integrates learning across the degree. The flexible zone allows students to tailor their studies with additional units across related disciplines. Overall, the degree develops strong analytical, critical thinking and ethical reasoning skills, preparing graduates for careers in criminal justice, policy, research and community-focused roles.
