COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts with a Media, Culture and Communications major is structured into three main components: Core Zone, Major Requirements, and Flexible Zone. The Core Zone consists of 160 credit points and provides the foundational structure of the degree. It includes essential introductory units such as Humanities and the World and Critical Thinking, along with a final-year Capstone unit that integrates learning across the program. Students also complete PACE (Practical, Academic, and Cultural Engagement) units, which provide applied learning experiences through internships, communication projects, or media-related activities. Additional elective options allow students to undertake international exchange or complete a minor, supporting flexibility and interdisciplinary study. The Media, Culture and Communications major consists of 80 credit points focused on understanding how media shapes society, culture, and communication practices. Core units include Visual Media and Communications and Media Technologies, which introduce foundational theories and tools of media analysis. Students then progress through specialised units such as Radical Media, Health, Bodies, Media, Streaming TV, Mobile Cultures, Forensic Media, and Screens, Images, Ideas, which explore contemporary media forms, digital platforms, and cultural impacts. These subjects develop analytical, critical, and practical media skills relevant to modern communication environments. The Flexible Zone accounts for 80 credit points, allowing students to pursue a second major or minor in areas such as business, sociology, languages, or arts, preparing graduates for careers in media production, journalism, digital communication, content creation, and cultural industries.
