COURSE CURRICULUM
The Bachelor of Arts with a Japanese Studies major is structured into three main components: Core Zone, Major Requirements, and Flexible Zone. The Core Zone consists of 160 credit points and provides the foundational structure of the degree. It includes essential introductory units such as Humanities and the World and Critical Thinking, along with a final-year Capstone unit that integrates learning across the program. Students also complete PACE (Practical, Academic, and Cultural Engagement) units, which provide practical learning experiences through internships, communication projects, or media-related activities. Additional elective options allow students to participate in international exchange or complete a minor, supporting flexibility and interdisciplinary learning. The Japanese Studies major consists of 80 credit points focused on developing Japanese language proficiency along with cultural, historical, and contemporary knowledge of Japan. Core units include Exploring Japanese Literature and Japanese Studies in Action, which build advanced understanding of language use, literature, and applied cultural knowledge. Students then progress through structured language units from beginner to advanced levels, developing skills in speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension. Higher-level electives such as Japanese Media and Culture and Social Issues in Contemporary Japan allow deeper exploration of society, culture, and modern developments. The Flexible Zone accounts for 80 credit points, enabling students to pursue a second major or minor in fields such as media, business, sociology, or arts, preparing graduates for careers in international communication, education, translation, media, and global cultural industries.
