COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts with an Education major is structured into three main components: Core Zone, Major Requirements, and Flexible Zone. The Core Zone consists of 160 credit points and provides the foundational structure of the degree. It includes essential introductory units such as Humanities and the World and Critical Thinking, along with a final-year Capstone unit that integrates learning across the program. Students also complete PACE (Practical, Academic, and Cultural Engagement) units, which provide applied learning experiences through internships, social and cultural projects, or communication-focused activities. Additional elective options allow students to participate in international exchange programs or complete a minor, supporting flexibility and interdisciplinary learning. The Education major consists of 80 credit points focused on understanding learning processes, teaching approaches, and social contexts of education. Core units include Indigenous Australia and Understanding Learners and Learning Environments, which introduce foundational perspectives on education and diversity. Other key units such as Cultural and Linguistic Diversity, Understanding the Brain, Development and Learning, Designing Technology Enhanced Learning in Primary Education, Teaching Creative Arts across the Curriculum, and Exploring Everyday Life and Culture build knowledge of pedagogy, psychology, inclusion, and curriculum design. The inclusion of Colonialism, Capitalism and Nationalism also encourages critical understanding of social systems influencing education. The Flexible Zone accounts for 80 credit points, allowing students to pursue a second major or minor in areas such as sociology, languages, media, or arts, preparing graduates for careers in education, training, community development, and youth services.
