COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts with a Creative Writing major is structured into three main components: Core Zone, Major Requirements, and Flexible Zone. The Core Zone consists of 160 credit points and provides the foundational structure of the degree. It includes essential introductory units such as Humanities and the World and Critical Thinking, along with a final-year Capstone unit that integrates learning across the program. Students also complete PACE (Practical, Academic, and Cultural Engagement) units, which provide practical learning experiences through internships, communication projects, or media-related professional activities. Additional elective options allow students to undertake international exchange or complete a minor, supporting interdisciplinary learning and global exposure. The Creative Writing major itself consists of 80 credit points focused on developing advanced writing, literary, and storytelling skills. Core units include Literature: Modern and Contemporary and An Introduction to Creative Writing, which build foundational understanding of literary forms and creative practice. Students then progress through specialised units such as Creative Writing 2: Short-form Fiction, Writing Genre Fiction, Publishing Poetry and Short Stories, Popular Fiction, and Novel and Novella Writing. These courses help students develop expertise in different genres, narrative techniques, and publishing contexts. The Flexible Zone accounts for 80 credit points, allowing students to pursue a second major or minor in areas such as media, sociology, languages, business, or arts, enabling diverse academic pathways and career opportunities in writing, publishing, media, and communication industries.
