COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Occupational Therapy Practice course structure consists of 240 credit points of core study designed to develop the theoretical knowledge, practical skills and professional capabilities required for contemporary occupational therapy practice. The first level of the course focuses on establishing strong foundations in occupational therapy theory, evidence-based practice and clinical application. Students begin by exploring the principles of occupational therapy, including the relationship between occupation, health and wellbeing, and the role of occupational therapists in enabling meaningful participation in daily activities. The course introduces evidence-based practice skills, allowing students to critically evaluate research and apply findings to support effective interventions. Students study key areas such as enabling change for children, musculoskeletal and neurological conditions, occupational participation, body structure and function, and mental health practice. Professional Practice A provides valuable hands-on learning opportunities, allowing students to apply their developing knowledge and skills in real-world settings. The curriculum also incorporates Indigenous cultural literacy, promoting culturally safe and respectful healthcare practices. Through a combination of academic learning, practical experiences and professional development, students build essential skills in assessment, intervention planning, clinical reasoning and client-centred care. This foundation prepares graduates to support individuals and communities in achieving improved independence, participation and quality of life across diverse environments.
