COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Nursing consists of 240 credit points and is designed to develop advanced nursing knowledge, specialised clinical expertise, leadership skills, and professional capabilities. The course structure includes core subjects, a selected specialisation, advanced learning pathways, and elective options, allowing students to tailor their studies to their professional goals. In Level One, students complete core subjects including Critical Nursing Essentials and Advanced Health Assessment, along with clinical quality improvement or recognised advanced standing credit. Students also undertake 60 credit points from their chosen specialisation, including the Perioperative Practices specialisation. This specialisation focuses on developing advanced knowledge and skills required to provide high-quality nursing care throughout the surgical journey, including preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative stages. Students gain expertise in perioperative nursing roles such as instrument and circulating nursing, anaesthesia support, and recovery nursing within operating theatre environments. The program enhances critical thinking, clinical decision-making, communication, teamwork, leadership, and evidence-based practice skills required for safe and effective patient care. In Level Two, students select a learning pathway such as Advanced Clinical, Education and Management, Project, Perioperative Nurse Surgical Assistant, or Research, depending on eligibility and career aspirations. Graduates develop the confidence and expertise to work effectively within multidisciplinary surgical teams, improve patient safety, and contribute to quality improvement in perioperative healthcare settings.
