COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Nursing consists of 240 credit points and provides advanced education in nursing practice, specialised clinical skills, leadership, research, and professional development. The course structure includes core subjects, a chosen specialisation, advanced learning pathways, and elective study options that support students in achieving their career objectives. In Level One, students complete core subjects including Critical Nursing Essentials and Advanced Health Assessment, along with clinical quality improvement or recognised advanced standing credit. Students also undertake 60 credit points from their selected specialisation. The Neonatal Special Care specialisation focuses on developing advanced knowledge and skills required to provide safe, supportive, and family-centred care for newborn infants experiencing complex health conditions. Students complete specialist subjects including Transition to Neonatal Special Care, Neonatal Care Foundations, and Neonatal Special Care Practice, building expertise in caring for premature, low-birth-weight, and critically ill infants. The specialisation develops clinical assessment, stabilisation, decision-making, and evidence-based practice skills required to manage deteriorating newborns and support families during challenging periods. In Level Two, students select a learning pathway such as Advanced Clinical, Education and Management, Project, Perioperative Nurse Surgical Assistant, or Research, depending on eligibility and professional goals. Graduates are prepared for advanced nursing roles in neonatal special care units, maternity services, and specialised healthcare environments, contributing to improved outcomes for newborns and their families.
