COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Nursing consists of 240 credit points and is designed to develop advanced nursing expertise, specialised clinical skills, leadership capabilities, and professional practice knowledge. The course structure includes core subjects, a selected specialisation, advanced learning pathways, and elective options to support students in achieving their professional goals. In Level One, students complete core subjects such as Critical Nursing Essentials and Advanced Health Assessment, along with clinical quality improvement or recognised advanced standing credit. Students also undertake 60 credit points from their chosen specialisation. The Neonatal Care specialisation focuses on preparing nurses to provide advanced, evidence-based, and family-centred care for newborn infants requiring specialised support. Students complete specialist subjects including Transition to Neonatal Care, Neonatal Care Foundations, and Neonatal Specialist Practice, developing essential knowledge and skills for caring for premature, low-birth-weight, and critically ill infants. The specialisation enhances clinical reasoning, assessment abilities, and decision-making skills while exploring neonatal risks, complications, and long-term outcomes associated with complex newborn care. In Level Two, students select a learning pathway such as Advanced Clinical, Education and Management, Project, Perioperative Nurse Surgical Assistant, or Research, depending on eligibility and career aspirations. Graduates develop the expertise required to work effectively in neonatal intensive care units, specialised maternity services, and healthcare teams, supporting improved outcomes for newborns and their families.
