COURSE CURRICULUM

The Quantum Computing specialisation within the Master of Information Technology at La Trobe University is structured to provide students with the knowledge and skills required to understand and contribute to the rapidly developing field of quantum technologies. The program consists of 240 credit points, combining essential information technology foundations with specialised quantum computing studies. In the first level, students complete 90 credit points of core subjects, including Information Technology Fundamentals, Database Fundamentals, Network Engineering Fundamentals, Artificial Intelligence Fundamentals, Cyber Security Principles, Introduction to Programming, and the Academic Integrity Module. These subjects establish fundamental skills in computing, programming, networking, databases, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. Students also complete 30 credit points from their chosen specialisation, building a foundation for advanced quantum-focused learning. In the second level, students undertake core subjects in Project Management and Professional Practices and Entrepreneurship in Information Technology, developing valuable professional and industry skills. Students then complete 30 credit points of additional specialisation subjects and a 60-credit-point Quantum Computing specialisation stream. This structure enables students to explore quantum principles, quantum communication, programming, algorithm design, cryptography, artificial intelligence, and machine learning applications. Through interdisciplinary learning across computer science, mathematics, and emerging technologies, graduates develop the ability to evaluate and apply quantum solutions to real-world challenges, preparing them for future careers in quantum computing, cybersecurity, advanced technology research, and innovation-driven industries.
