COURSE CURRICULUM

The Networking specialisation within the Master of Information Technology at La Trobe University is designed to provide students with advanced knowledge and practical skills required to develop, manage, and secure modern network infrastructures. The program consists of 240 credit points, combining core information technology studies with specialised networking subjects. In the first level, students complete 90 credit points of core subjects, including Information Technology Fundamentals, Database Fundamentals, Network Engineering Fundamentals, Artificial Intelligence Fundamentals, Cyber Security Principles, Introduction to Programming, and the Academic Integrity Module. These subjects establish a strong foundation in computing, programming, databases, networking, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies. Students also complete 30 credit points from their chosen specialisation, allowing them to begin building expertise in networking concepts and applications. In the second level, students undertake core subjects in Project Management and Professional Practices and Entrepreneurship in Information Technology, developing essential professional and industry-focused skills. Students then complete 30 credit points of additional specialisation subjects and a 60-credit-point Networking specialisation stream. This structure enables students to explore advanced networking principles, network design, routing protocols, switching technologies, cybersecurity, and infrastructure management. Through a combination of theoretical learning and practical application, graduates develop the ability to plan, implement, maintain, and secure complex network environments. The specialisation prepares students for careers in network engineering, systems administration, cybersecurity, and IT infrastructure management across diverse organisations.
