COURSE CURRICULUM

The Internet of Things specialisation within the Master of Information Technology at La Trobe University is structured to provide students with advanced knowledge and practical skills required to design, implement, and manage connected technology systems. The program consists of 240 credit points, combining core information technology studies with specialised IoT learning. In the first level, students complete 90 credit points of core subjects, including Information Technology Fundamentals, Database Fundamentals, Network Engineering Fundamentals, Artificial Intelligence Fundamentals, Cyber Security Principles, Introduction to Programming, and the Academic Integrity Module. These subjects establish essential foundations in computing, programming, databases, networking, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. Students also complete 30 credit points from their chosen specialisation, allowing them to develop focused knowledge in IoT concepts and applications. In the second level, students undertake core subjects in Project Management and Professional Practices and Entrepreneurship in Information Technology, strengthening their professional and industry skills. Students then complete 30 credit points of additional specialisation subjects and a 60-credit-point Internet of Things specialisation stream. This structure enables students to explore IoT architecture, platforms, protocols, programming, data analysis, security, and the design of innovative connected solutions. Through a combination of theoretical understanding and practical application, graduates develop the capabilities required to create and manage IoT systems across diverse industries. The specialisation prepares students for careers in IoT development, smart technologies, automation, embedded systems, and emerging digital innovation fields.
