COURSE CURRICULUM

The Cybersecurity specialisation within the Master of Information Technology at La Trobe University is designed to provide students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills to address modern cybersecurity challenges and protect digital systems. The program consists of 240 credit points, combining core information technology studies with specialised cybersecurity learning. In the first level, students complete 90 credit points of core subjects, including Information Technology Fundamentals, Database Fundamentals, Network Engineering Fundamentals, Artificial Intelligence Fundamentals, Cyber Security Principles, Introduction to Programming, and the Academic Integrity Module. These subjects establish essential capabilities in computing, programming, networking, databases, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity concepts. Students also complete 30 credit points from their selected specialisation, allowing them to develop focused technical expertise. In the second level, students undertake core subjects in Project Management and Professional Practices and Entrepreneurship in Information Technology, strengthening their professional, leadership, and industry skills. Students then complete 30 credit points of additional specialisation subjects and a 60-credit-point Cybersecurity specialisation stream. This pathway enables students to explore advanced areas of cybersecurity, including security management, threat analysis, ethical hacking, cyber defence, and digital protection strategies. Through theoretical study and practical application, graduates develop the ability to design secure systems, identify vulnerabilities, manage cyber risks, and respond effectively to security incidents. The specialisation prepares students for careers in cybersecurity analysis, security consulting, digital forensics, and information security roles across diverse industries.
