COURSE CURRICULUM

The Artificial Intelligence specialisation within the Master of Information Technology at La Trobe University is structured to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of intelligent technologies while developing practical skills for designing and implementing AI-driven solutions. The program consists of 240 credit points, combining core information technology knowledge with specialised artificial intelligence studies. In the first level, students complete 90 credit points of core subjects, including Information Technology Fundamentals, Database Fundamentals, Network Engineering Fundamentals, Artificial Intelligence Fundamentals, Cyber Security Principles, Introduction to Programming, and the Academic Integrity Module. These subjects establish essential skills in computing, programming, databases, networking, cybersecurity, and AI concepts. Students also undertake 30 credit points from their selected specialisation, allowing them to begin developing advanced expertise in their chosen area. In the second level, students complete core subjects in Project Management and Professional Practices and Entrepreneurship in Information Technology, strengthening their professional and organisational capabilities. Students then undertake 30 credit points of additional specialisation subjects and select a 60-credit-point specialisation stream focused on Artificial Intelligence. This structure enables students to explore advanced AI concepts, develop technical solutions, and apply intelligent technologies to real-world challenges. The specialisation prepares graduates with the analytical, programming, and problem-solving skills required for careers in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data-driven innovation, and emerging technology fields across diverse industries.
