COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Education with the Language and Literacy specialisation requires the completion of 240 credit points, combining advanced educational knowledge with specialised expertise in language development, literacy instruction, and reading research. The course structure is designed to support educators and professionals in developing evidence-based approaches to improve literacy outcomes across diverse learning environments. Level One consists of 120 credit points of core subjects, including the Academic Integrity Module, How Humans Learn, Understanding and Building Leadership Capabilities, Utilising Emerging Technologies for Educational Purposes, Strategic Communication for Education, Educational Systems, Learning Environments: Applications of the Learning Sciences, Inclusion Equity and Access, and Leadership, Diversity and Inclusion. These subjects provide a strong foundation in learning sciences, educational leadership, communication, digital technologies, and inclusive educational practices. Level Two includes a 60-credit-point Language and Literacy specialisation, allowing students to develop advanced understanding of the cognitive and linguistic foundations of reading and language learning. Students explore areas such as language and linguistics for reading instruction, cognitive science models of reading, instructional design for literacy education, and multi-tiered systems of support for effective intervention. The specialisation prepares graduates to design high-quality literacy programs, support diverse learners, and apply research-informed teaching practices. Graduates are equipped for specialist roles in literacy education, curriculum development, educational leadership, and learning support across primary, secondary, and specialist settings.
