COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sport Analytics specialisation within the Master of Data Science at La Trobe University is designed to provide students with advanced data science skills and analytical techniques for solving complex problems in the sports industry. As part of the 240-credit-point program, students begin with core data science subjects including Data Exploration and Analysis, Database Fundamentals, Introduction to Programming, Mathematics for Data Science, and Probability and Statistics for Data Science. These subjects develop essential skills in programming, statistical analysis, data management, and mathematical modelling. Students then complete 30 credit points from the Sport Analytics specialisation and 15 credit points of electives, allowing them to explore the application of data science methods in sporting environments. In the second level, students undertake core subjects in Big Data Management on the Cloud and Professional Practices and Entrepreneurship in Information Technology, followed by further specialisation studies. Students complete the program by selecting a 60-credit-point learning pathway, including options such as a Statistics Thesis, Computer Science Thesis, Computer Science Industry Project, Statistics Industry-Based Learning, or Computer Science Industry-Based Learning. These pathways provide opportunities for research, industry projects, and professional experience. The specialisation equips graduates with the ability to analyse performance data, develop predictive models, and apply advanced analytics to support decision-making in sports organisations, preparing them for careers in sports technology, performance analysis, data analytics, and related data-driven fields.
