COURSE CURRICULUM

The Big Data and Cloud Computing specialisation within the Master of Data Science at La Trobe University is completed as part of the 240-credit-point program and combines core data science studies with specialised coursework and practical learning pathways. In the first level, students complete core subjects including Data Exploration and Analysis, Database Fundamentals, Introduction to Programming, Mathematics for Data Science, and Probability and Statistics for Data Science, establishing a strong foundation in programming, statistical methods, database management, and analytical techniques. Students also undertake 30 credit points of specialisation subjects and 15 credit points of electives, allowing them to begin developing expertise in big data and cloud computing. In the second level, students complete core subjects in Big Data Management on the Cloud and Professional Practices and Entrepreneurship in Information Technology, followed by an additional 30 credit points of specialised study. The program concludes with a 60-credit-point learning pathway, where students choose from options including a Computer Science Thesis, Statistics Thesis, Computer Science Industry Project, Computer Science Industry-Based Learning, or Statistics Industry-Based Learning. These pathways incorporate research, project management, industry development projects, applied research, or professional placements, providing valuable practical experience. This structured curriculum equips students with advanced knowledge of cloud technologies, big data management, analytics, and professional skills, preparing them for careers in cloud computing, data engineering, business intelligence, and digital transformation.
