COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Data Science at La Trobe University requires the completion of 240 credit points, comprising 105 credit points of core subjects, 15 credit points of electives, 60 credit points from a chosen specialisation, and 60 credit points from a selected learning pathway. In the first level, students complete 75 credit points of core subjects, including Data Exploration and Analysis, Database Fundamentals, Introduction to Programming, Mathematics for Data Science, and Probability and Statistics for Data Science, alongside 30 credit points of specialisation subjects and 15 credit points of electives. These subjects establish strong foundations in programming, statistical analysis, mathematics, and data management. In the second level, students undertake core subjects in Big Data Management on the Cloud and Professional Practices and Entrepreneurship in Information Technology, followed by an additional 30 credit points of specialisation subjects. Students then choose a 60-credit-point learning pathway that aligns with their career goals, including a Statistics Thesis, Computer Science Thesis, Computer Science Industry Project, Statistics Industry-Based Learning, or Computer Science Industry-Based Learning. These pathways integrate project management, research, industry development projects, applied research, or professional placements to provide practical experience and advanced expertise. The program also offers specialisations such as Artificial Intelligence Analytics, enabling students to tailor their studies while developing the technical, analytical, research, and professional skills required for successful careers in data science and related industries.
