COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics at La Trobe University requires the completion of 240 credit points, consisting of 120 credit points of core subjects and 120 credit points from a selected core pathway. The first level of the program includes 120 credit points of core coursework designed to develop a strong foundation in biotechnology, bioinformatics, scientific research, and professional skills. Students study Techniques in Biotechnology, Protein Chemistry, Bio-Business Management, Scientific Communication Skills, Proteomics and Genomics, Bioinformatics, Skills in Science, and Practical Biotechnology. These subjects provide comprehensive knowledge of modern biological technologies, computational approaches, laboratory methods, and the commercial applications of biotechnology. Students gain practical experience in areas such as protein analysis, genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics tools, and advanced laboratory techniques while developing essential skills in scientific communication, research practices, and industry awareness. The curriculum integrates theoretical learning with hands-on training, enabling students to understand how biotechnology and bioinformatics can be applied to challenges in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, sustainability, and biological research.
