COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Art Therapy requires the completion of at least two years of full-time study or an equivalent part-time duration, with students required to successfully complete a total of 240 core credit points to qualify for the award. The course structure is designed to provide a comprehensive foundation in both theoretical knowledge and practical application of art therapy. In the first level, students complete 120 credit points of core subjects covering essential areas of professional practice. Key units include Academic Integrity Module, Approaches and Theories of Art Therapy, Art Therapy Counselling Skills, Art Therapy with Children, Art Therapy with Adults, Materials and Processes in Art Therapy, Group Art Therapy, and Art Therapy Placement and Supervision A. These subjects develop students’ understanding of major art therapy approaches, counselling techniques, creative materials, therapeutic processes, and ethical professional practice. Students gain specialised skills to work with individuals across different age groups and in group settings while building practical experience through supervised placement. The course balances academic learning with hands-on training, preparing graduates with the clinical, creative, and interpersonal capabilities required for effective art therapy practice in healthcare, community, and counselling environments.
