COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Speech Pathology (Honours) consists of 480 credit points, including 420 core credit points and one 60 credit point minor. The course structure is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in communication sciences, human development, clinical practice and evidence-based healthcare. Across four levels of study, students progressively develop knowledge and practical skills required to assess and support people with speech, language, voice, communication and swallowing difficulties. Early study focuses on foundational areas such as anatomy, physiology, communication science, psychology and health, building an understanding of the biological and social factors that influence communication and wellbeing. Later levels advance students’ abilities in assessment, therapeutic intervention, clinical reasoning and professional practice through applied learning and supervised placements. The course integrates research, evidence-based practice and real-world clinical experiences to prepare students for diverse professional settings. Students also complete a 60 credit point minor, allowing further development of specialised knowledge and skills. Through the combination of academic learning, practical training and research opportunities, graduates are prepared to work as speech pathologists in healthcare, education, disability services and community environments, helping individuals improve communication, swallowing function and quality of life.
