COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) consists of 480 credit points, including 420 core credit points and one 60 credit point minor. The course structure is designed to develop comprehensive knowledge and practical skills required for professional social work practice. In the first level, students build foundational understanding through studies in social work, sociology, psychology, health and wellbeing, communication and the social and political contexts that influence individuals and communities. The second level expands students’ knowledge through subjects covering social work theories, inequality, research, trauma, resilience, human rights, ethics, law and diversity. In the third level, students develop advanced practice skills through professional practice, community inclusion, social work fields and applied learning, while also beginning their chosen minor. The final level includes a capstone professional placement and advanced studies in social policy, advocacy and social work skills, allowing students to integrate theory with real-world practice. Throughout the course, students gain experience in assessment, communication, research, advocacy and supporting diverse populations. Graduates are prepared for careers in community services, healthcare, welfare organisations, government agencies and social support settings, with the skills to promote social justice and improve individual and community wellbeing.
