COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Psychological Science at La Trobe University requires students to complete 360 credit points, including 180 credit points of core subjects, with the remaining 180 credit points completed through electives, a major and minor combination, a major with electives, or up to two minors with electives. The course structure develops a strong foundation in psychological theory, research, assessment, and practical application. In the first year, students study introductory psychology subjects covering brain and mind, scientific foundations, people and culture, and applied psychology, while beginning elective or minor studies. In the second year, students explore advanced areas including cognition, psychological research methods, developmental psychology, and social psychology, while continuing elective, major, or minor subjects. The third year focuses on professional preparation through capstone subjects in psychological research in practice and psychological health and illness, along with core studies in psychological assessment and psychological interventions. Students can tailor their degree through recommended minors such as Neuroscience and Human Relationships or other available majors and electives. The program develops skills in critical thinking, research, communication, psychological analysis, assessment, and evidence-based intervention. Graduates gain a strong foundation for further postgraduate psychology study and careers in health services, community support, research, human services, education, marketing, and other fields involving human behaviour.
