COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Podiatry (Honours) at La Trobe University requires students to complete 480 credit points, including 420 core credit points and a 60 credit point minor. The four-year program is designed to develop the scientific knowledge, clinical expertise, and professional skills needed to become a qualified podiatrist. In the first year, students build foundational understanding through subjects covering human biosciences, anatomy, microbiology, foot cutaneous science, professional communication, research methods, health and wellbeing, and introductory podiatric practice. The second year focuses on developing clinical knowledge through studies in lower limb and foot anatomy, pathophysiology, pharmacology, podiatric assessment, podiatric populations, and advanced podiatric practice. Students learn to evaluate and manage a range of foot and lower limb conditions using evidence-based approaches. In the third year, students advance their expertise in areas including podiatric biomechanics, high-risk foot care, musculoskeletal pathology, podiatric pharmacology, foot health across different populations, and professional practice. The final year emphasizes advanced clinical training through podiatric practice placements, medical conditions affecting the foot, and completion of the capstone experience. Students also complete subjects within their chosen minor area of study. Throughout the course, students develop skills in diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation, patient management, and clinical decision-making. The program combines theoretical learning, practical experience, and professional training to prepare graduates for careers in hospitals, private clinics, community health, sports medicine, and specialised podiatry services.
