COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) at La Trobe University requires students to complete 480 credit points, including 420 core credit points and a 60 credit point minor. The four-year program is designed to develop the scientific knowledge, clinical reasoning abilities, and practical skills required for professional physiotherapy practice. In the first year, students establish strong foundations through subjects covering physiotherapy skills and reasoning, anatomy, human biosciences, and health science concepts. Students begin developing assessment, movement analysis, and treatment skills essential for physiotherapy practice. The second year expands students’ clinical understanding through studies in exercise and physical activity, physiotherapy for older adults, pathophysiology, neurological physiotherapy, musculoskeletal physiotherapy, pharmacology, and preparation for professional placements. In the third year, students advance their expertise in specialised areas including cardiorespiratory physiotherapy, spinal and pelvic conditions, neurological rehabilitation, paediatric physiotherapy, integrated clinical reasoning, and professional practicum experience. The final year focuses on advanced professional practice, clinical placements, sports and exercise physiotherapy, and completion of the chosen minor area of study. Throughout the course, students develop skills in patient assessment, diagnosis, rehabilitation planning, communication, and evidence-based healthcare. The combination of academic study, practical training, and clinical placements prepares graduates to work as qualified physiotherapists across hospitals, private clinics, community health services, sports settings, and rehabilitation environments.
