COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Outdoor and Sustainability Education at La Trobe University requires students to complete a total of 360 credit points. The course structure consists of 120 credit points of core subjects, 120 credit points in a selected major, and an additional 120 credit points that can be completed through an optional major or a combination of a minor and elective subjects. The program is designed to develop a strong foundation in outdoor learning, sustainability, environmental education, leadership, and practical teaching skills. In the first year, students complete 120 credit points, including 60 credit points of core subjects, 30 credit points of major studies, and 30 credit points of optional major or minor studies. The Outdoor Education major consists of 120 credit points and focuses on developing expertise in outdoor leadership, adventure education, safety management, environmental interpretation, and natural and cultural history. Students learn how to design and deliver outdoor learning experiences, manage risks in natural environments, and promote sustainable relationships between people and nature. Through practical activities, field experiences, and experiential learning, students develop skills in communication, teamwork, leadership, and environmental awareness. The curriculum prepares graduates for careers in outdoor education, adventure programs, environmental learning, community engagement, conservation, and sustainability initiatives, equipping them with the confidence and professional capabilities needed to lead educational experiences beyond the classroom.
