COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Outdoor and Sustainability Education at La Trobe University requires students to complete a total of 360 credit points. The course structure includes 120 credit points of core subjects, 120 credit points in a selected major, and an additional 120 credit points that can be completed through an optional major or a combination of a 60 credit point minor and 60 credit points of electives. The program is structured across three academic levels, with each level requiring completion of 120 credit points. In the first year, students complete 60 credit points of core subjects, 30 credit points of major studies, and 30 credit points of optional major or minor subjects, developing foundational knowledge in outdoor education, sustainability, environmental learning, leadership, and practical skills. The second and third years allow students to build advanced expertise through major studies, optional specialisations, and elective choices. The Climate Change major consists of 120 credit points and provides interdisciplinary knowledge of human-driven climate change, environmental impacts, sustainability solutions, and strategies for creating resilient communities. Students explore climate change through perspectives including science, economics, law, public health, and social sciences. The curriculum develops skills in outdoor leadership, environmental education, risk management, communication, and sustainability practices, preparing graduates for careers in outdoor education, environmental programs, conservation, community engagement, and sustainability-focused organisations.
