COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Laws (Honours)/Bachelor of Psychological Science at La Trobe University requires the completion of 600 credit points over five years of full-time study. This double degree combines professional legal education with psychological science, providing students with an interdisciplinary understanding of law, human behaviour, and social issues. The curriculum includes core law subjects, psychological science subjects, law electives, and additional elective components. The Law component covers essential legal areas including legal institutions and methods, dispute resolution, criminal law, public law, constitutional law, contract law, company law, evidence and criminal procedure, property law, and advanced legal studies. Students develop practical legal capabilities in advocacy, negotiation, mediation, legal research, communication, and ethical decision-making while completing the academic requirements for legal admission in Victoria. The Psychological Science component explores human behaviour and mental processes through subjects in clinical, health, developmental, and social psychology. Students learn about psychological assessment, intervention strategies, research methods, mental health, and the environmental factors influencing psychological wellbeing. The course provides practical learning opportunities through legal placements in community legal centres, law firms, government agencies, and psychology-related field experiences. Graduates gain strong analytical, research, communication, and problem-solving skills, preparing them for careers in law, psychology-related services, government, community organisations, policy development, and professional roles requiring knowledge of both legal and behavioural sciences.
