COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Laws (Honours)/Bachelor of Global Studies at La Trobe University requires the completion of 600 credit points over five years of full-time study. This double degree combines professional legal training with interdisciplinary global studies, enabling students to develop expertise in legal practice while understanding international political, social, economic, and cultural issues. The curriculum includes core law subjects, Global Studies subjects, a selected Global Studies major, law electives, and additional elective components. The Law component covers fundamental areas including legal institutions and methods, dispute resolution, criminal law, public law, contract law, constitutional law, evidence and criminal procedure, property law, and advanced legal studies. Students develop practical legal skills in advocacy, negotiation, mediation, legal research, communication, and ethical decision-making. The Global Studies component explores international relations, geopolitics, global security, international organizations, human rights, conflict, sustainability, development, and international policy challenges. Students can specialise through majors such as international relations, conflict and negotiation, Asian politics and security, government and policy, and human rights. The course incorporates practical learning through legal placements, community legal work, law competitions, global studies placement subjects, and international learning opportunities. Graduates gain interdisciplinary skills suited to careers in international law, diplomacy, government, human rights organizations, policy development, global business, legal practice, and other fields requiring knowledge of law and global affairs.
