COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Laws (Honours)/Bachelor of Criminology at La Trobe University requires students to complete a total of 600 credit points over a minimum of five years of full-time study or equivalent part-time study. The program combines 360 credit points of Bachelor of Laws (Honours) coded subjects with 240 credit points of Bachelor of Criminology coded subjects. The Law component includes 240 credit points of core subjects, 30 or 45 credit points of core-choice subjects, and 75 or 90 credit points of elective subjects, allowing students to develop specialised legal knowledge and explore areas of professional interest. The Criminology component consists of 195 credit points of core subjects and 45 credit points of elective subjects, focusing on crime, justice systems, social factors influencing offending, and crime prevention strategies. The course is structured across five academic levels, with each level requiring completion of 120 credit points. Students progressively build foundational knowledge in law, criminology, legal research, and professional practice before advancing to complex legal issues, criminal justice analysis, and applied learning. Through core studies, electives, and practical experiences, students develop skills in legal reasoning, negotiation, critical analysis, communication, and evidence-based decision-making. This integrated curriculum prepares graduates for careers in legal practice, criminal justice, government, policy development, compliance, advocacy, research, and community-focused roles.
