COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Laws (Honours)/Bachelor of Commerce at La Trobe University requires the completion of 600 credit points over five years of full-time study. The double degree integrates professional legal education with business studies, providing students with knowledge and skills across legal practice, commerce, and corporate environments. The curriculum consists of core law subjects, commerce subjects, a selected commerce major, law electives, and additional elective components. The Law component covers essential areas including legal institutions and methods, dispute resolution, criminal law, public law, constitutional law, contract law, tort law, property law, evidence and criminal procedure, company law, and advanced legal practice. Students develop professional skills in legal research, advocacy, negotiation, mediation, communication, and ethical decision-making. The Commerce component allows students to choose majors such as accounting, business analytics, economics, finance, management, or marketing, building expertise in financial management, business strategy, data analysis, leadership, and commercial decision-making. The program focuses on applying legal knowledge within business contexts, including corporate governance, regulation, financing, and emerging issues related to technology and digital transformation. Students gain practical experience through legal placements, industry projects, and work-integrated learning opportunities. Graduates develop interdisciplinary capabilities for careers in corporate law, commercial consulting, compliance, finance, government, business management, and professional advisory roles.
