COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Laws (Honours)/Bachelor of Biomedicine at La Trobe University is a double degree requiring the completion of 600 credit points over five years of full-time study. The course combines legal education with biomedical science, allowing students to develop expertise in both professional law and human health sciences. The curriculum includes core law subjects, biomedical science subjects, a selected biomedicine major, law electives, and other elective components. The Law component provides a foundation in legal institutions, dispute resolution, criminal law, public law, contract law, company law, constitutional law, evidence, criminal procedure, property law, and advanced legal practice. Students develop skills in legal research, advocacy, negotiation, problem-solving, communication, and ethical decision-making. The Biomedicine component explores scientific principles related to chemistry, biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, human physiology, health, and disease. Students can specialise through majors including cancer, heart and brain diseases; immunology and infectious disease; physiology and pharmacology; or molecular and cellular biochemistry. The program integrates theoretical learning with practical experiences through legal placements, laboratory activities, fieldwork, internships, and overseas exchange opportunities. Graduates gain interdisciplinary skills suitable for careers in legal practice, healthcare regulation, biotechnology, medical research, government policy, intellectual property, compliance, and other fields where law and biomedical knowledge intersect.
