COURSE CURRICULUM

The Software Engineering major consists of 120 credit points within a 360-credit-point degree and is designed to develop advanced technical skills in software development, programming and digital solution design. The major is structured across three levels of study, allowing students to progressively build knowledge from fundamental computing concepts to advanced software engineering practices. In Level one, students develop foundational skills in programming, computational thinking, software concepts and problem-solving while beginning their major studies and exploring related computing areas through electives. Level two focuses on intermediate software engineering skills, including algorithms, data structures, software design, database technologies, web development and user interface principles. Students learn how to analyse requirements, design effective software architectures and apply professional development methods. In Level three, students undertake advanced software engineering subjects and complete a Capstone Project, where they apply their knowledge to design, develop and deliver a practical software solution for a real-world problem. The major also emphasises software testing, quality assurance, cloud-based applications, mobile technologies and collaborative development practices. Through hands-on projects and industry-focused learning, students develop the technical expertise, creativity and problem-solving abilities required for professional software careers. Graduates are prepared for roles such as software engineers, application developers, web developers, systems analysts and technology specialists across diverse industries.
