COURSE CURRICULUM

The Data Science major consists of 120 credit points within a 360-credit-point degree and is structured to develop strong analytical, computational and data management skills through progressive levels of study. Students begin with core subjects including Introduction to Cybersecurity and Data-Based Critical Thinking, which provide a foundation in digital security, analytical reasoning and problem-solving. At Level one, students also complete major subjects and electives that strengthen their knowledge of programming, mathematics and computing fundamentals. In Level two, students study core subjects such as Database Fundamentals, User Interface Design and Systems Analysis and Design while progressing through specialised Data Science subjects that focus on statistical analysis, data modelling, programming and data management. Flexible elective options enable students to broaden their expertise in complementary computing areas. In the final level, students complete a Capstone Project where they apply their knowledge to solve a real-world data challenge, supported by studies in Project Management and Professional Practices and Entrepreneurship in Information Technology. Advanced major subjects further develop expertise in machine learning, predictive analytics, data visualisation and business intelligence. Throughout the program, students gain practical experience analysing large datasets, identifying patterns and communicating data-driven insights. Graduates are well prepared for careers in data science, business analytics, artificial intelligence, information systems and other technology-driven industries requiring advanced analytical skills.
