COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Health Sciences with a major in Public Health at La Trobe University requires students to complete 360 credit points, structured across three levels of study, with each level consisting of 120 credit points. The course provides students with a broad foundation in health sciences while allowing specialization through the 120 credit point Public Health major. This major focuses on developing the knowledge and skills required to understand, protect, and improve the health of populations through evidence-based approaches. Students explore the causes and prevention of disease, injury control strategies, health promotion, and methods for reducing health inequalities within communities. The program examines the wide range of factors that influence health outcomes, including environmental, social, cultural, political, economic, technological, behavioural, and biological influences. Students develop practical skills in public health research, policy development, community engagement, health program planning, evaluation, and emergency response. The major emphasizes the importance of collaboration with communities, healthcare organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders to create effective health solutions. Through applied learning and industry placement opportunities, students gain experience in real-world public health settings and strengthen their professional skills.
