COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Health Sciences with a major in Psychological Science at La Trobe University requires students to complete 360 credit points, structured across three levels of study, with each level consisting of 120 credit points. The course provides students with a broad understanding of health sciences while allowing specialization through the 120 credit point Psychological Science major. This major is designed to develop students’ scientific understanding of human behaviour, thoughts, emotions, and relationships, while exploring the complex factors that influence psychological health and wellbeing. Students study the foundations of psychology, including psychological theories, research methods, and evidence-based approaches to understanding human experiences. The major examines biological, social, cultural, and psychological influences on behaviour and mental health, helping students understand psychological wellbeing and illness across diverse populations. Students develop skills in psychological assessment, data analysis, research design, critical evaluation, and effective communication. The program also provides opportunities to investigate psychological interventions and apply psychological knowledge to real-world situations involving individuals, groups, and communities. Through research-based learning and practical skill development, students gain the ability to analyze information, interpret psychological data, and contribute to health and wellbeing initiatives. Graduates are prepared for careers in health services, community support, research, education, and related fields, while also gaining a strong foundation for further postgraduate study in psychology and other health professions.
