COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Education (Primary) at La Trobe University requires students to complete a total of 480 credit points to qualify for the degree. The course structure consists of 120 credit points of core subjects and 360 credit points in the selected Primary major. The core component develops essential foundations in education, including teaching practices, learning theories, curriculum planning, assessment, student development, inclusive education, and professional teaching skills. The 360 credit point Primary major provides specialised preparation for teaching children aged five to twelve years across primary school settings. Students develop comprehensive knowledge of primary curriculum areas, including literacy, numeracy, science, creative arts, mathematics, health, humanities, and languages. The major focuses on child psychology, diverse learning needs, classroom management, lesson planning, educational assessment, and evidence-based teaching strategies. Throughout the program, students engage in practical learning experiences and supervised professional placements in primary schools, allowing them to apply educational theories and develop confidence in real classroom environments. The curriculum prepares graduates with the knowledge, skills, and professional capabilities required to create inclusive, engaging, and effective learning experiences for primary students. Upon completion, graduates are equipped to pursue careers as qualified primary school teachers and contribute positively to children’s academic, social, and personal development.
