COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Education at La Trobe University requires students to complete a total of 480 credit points across four academic levels, with each level consisting of 120 credit points. The course structure is designed to provide a balance of theoretical knowledge, professional teaching skills, and practical classroom experience. In the first year, students develop foundational understanding of education, child development, learning theories, literacy, numeracy, digital learning, and inclusive teaching practices while building essential communication and classroom skills. The second year focuses on developing deeper knowledge of curriculum design, teaching strategies, assessment methods, classroom management, and approaches to supporting diverse learners. Students begin to apply educational concepts through practical activities and professional learning experiences. The third year expands students’ expertise in specialised teaching areas, educational research, student wellbeing, and evidence-based teaching practices while preparing them for more advanced professional placements. The final year emphasises advanced teaching skills, professional practice, leadership, and reflective approaches to education. Students complete extensive supervised placements in early childhood, primary, or secondary education settings, gaining real-world experience in planning lessons, managing classrooms, and supporting student learning. The curriculum prepares graduates with the knowledge, skills, and confidence required to become effective educators who can create inclusive, engaging, and supportive learning environments for diverse student communities.
